Trying Out Something New In Indian Cinema

The Millennium has seen many latest trends in latest Hindi films. The mature scripts of today encompass many social and political fields. Cinematography involves advanced techniques and film directors take advantage from latest and improved equipment.

Sound recording in films has also changed because of western influences in almost all main areas. Mainstream cinema depends on item songs to pull the audience even if it seems like a flop from the word go.

One of the most important changes is the heavy investment to marketing and advertising films. Since the Film industry is a huge business opportunity, it is very common to find them smartly packaged. Consider Farhan Akhtar’s directorial debut Dil Chahta Hai.

It kick started the beginning of a new age in Hindi movies by retaining dance, song and drama scenes but also adding some sensibilities and treating them maturely.

Hindi cinema is not restricted to the latest Hindi movies but to the movie industry as an entire. Art or specialized movies are modified to fit on big screens. A genre of persuasive and tough themes such as the type seen in City of Gold (based on Mumbai mill workers’ lives) have become more and more common. Directors try out fresh ideas and attempt to offer a more meaningful interpretation of reality. Films generally narrate real life situations and not completely show them, leaving the room for creative deductions.

Most of the new Hindi films, especially the popular mainstream ones are being shot in foreign locales. Action movies use unbelievable stunts and boast impressive packaging.

Some time back, many actresses in movies were only portrayed as love interests and served as male lead’s arm candies. Some successful films like The President is Coming and Fashion broke stereotypes by having only actresses in the main roles. Filmmakers are moving towards the less explored genres like horror and making interesting movies other than the staple ghost films. Newest Hindi films like Raaz, 13B and Phoonk have proved that horror films can take the box office by storm.
